This has been compounded by the emergence of the digital economy, automation and globalization. It is seen that global supply chains connect industries and workers throughout the globe, new technologies have been transforming the workplace, and new professions are emerging. All these dynamics have resulted in lower levels of protection and call for adequate and adapted policy responses. Recognising the importance of this challenges, the Workshop aims at discussing and identifying gaps in social protection resulting from the rise in nonstandard forms of employment and thereby identify the opportunities for structural change in order to reduce risks and ensure effective social protection for all. |
